Sakura Collection

Introducing the new

Sakura Collection

Featuring nine new patterns in one of our largest collections so far.

The Sakura Collection is inspired by Japanese minimalist aesthetics and easy wear garments with a relax fit. Sakura, or Cherry Blossom, evokes ideas of beauty and grace. Of Japanese culture and simple elegance. We've worked to incorporate those elements into these patterns to create everyday garments that are both flexible and practical.

As with every collection, our designs are based around a theme rather than a season. Because let's face it, we're a global community in a range of climates. No-one should miss out on the fun!

We've also added copy shop files in our Sakura PDF patterns and hope to add them to our older patterns soon. So watch this space!

Right, let's take a closer look at what's on offer:

Sapporo Coat

The Sapporo coat is a fully lined cocoon coat with dramatic, angled seaming and discrete front pockets. Named after Sapporo for their famous snow festival, this coat can be made with woven wool to keep you toasty warm in winter. But the design doesn't stop there. The Sapporo Coat would also make a stunning layer in warm weather. Go for a mid-weight woven in a bold print and you're bound to turn heads.

Kochi Kimono

You can't have a Japanese themed collection without a Kimono pattern. This boxy, cropped jacket is great for any season and comes in three variations to suit any woven fabric.

  • Variation one is unlined and features side ties, neckline band and front patch pockets. This is our mid-weight blue version.
  • Variation two is lined and includes facing, patch pockets and no band or side ties. This is our cocoa brown version in cosy wool.
  • Variation three features a neckline band and is unlined with no pockets or side ties. This is the lightweight, blush version shown above.

Aomori Twist Top

You guys loved our Bowline Sweater, so we wanted to give you another pattern that's just as much fun. These interesting pattern pieces work together to give you bold shape and texture, while offering something unusual for your sewing pleasure. Because no-one likes a rut, right? The Aomori Twist Top can be made in knit or woven for the sleeveless version, or a soft knit for the long sleeve option.

Kyoto Sweater/Tee

This drop shoulder sweater/tee is already proving popular and what better way to celebrate 'the year of the sleeve' than with a subtle ruffle. The relax fit pattern can be made in soft knits as either a tee or sweater for any weather.

Kobe Dress/Top

Considered one of the fashion hubs of Japan, Kobe is a stunning harbour city framed by mountains. It's the perfect inspiration for our Kobe Dress/Top which features a back pleat overlapping the gently scooped back neckline. The dress version is mid-calf length with a simple front and the top version features a cropped front and scoop back hem. Best suited to light-weight woven fabrics with drape.

Otsu Jeans

Back by popular demand, we have reimagined our original 'Peter & Wolf Pants' and given them a complete new twist. Features a fly front, hidden front pockets, slimming seam details, back yoke and front half yokes for contrast fabric options. Choose a medium-weight woven fabric with stretch. Think denim, corduroy or velvet.

Nagoya Pants/Shorts

These wide leg pants are all about great tailoring and clean lines. The waistband is designed to sit at the natural waist and features double-stud buttons. Other features include curved front pockets, front fly, back darts and three length options for ultimate versatility.

Mito Cami/Dress

The Mito Cami/Dress was born out of the need for a low-back slip in the wardrobe. But that doesn't mean it should stay hidden away. The pattern works just as well as a dress! We've included separate bust cups for easy alteration or lace panels, adjustable straps and two length options.

Himeji Bag (Chloe, the puppy, not included)

Inspired by minimalist aesthetic, the Himeji Bag is all about clean lines and functionality. This fully lined bag also features an internal zip compartment for all your essentials. Make yours in any sturdy, woven fabric like denim or linen, but if you have the right machinery, this is perfect for cutting into your treasured leather. Our yellow sample was made with an incredible textured leather from The Fabric Store.

Every collection is a team effort and we want to say a huge thanks to our wonderful model, Hannah, to Poppy for the hair and make-up, David James for photography, Bec from Clouds of Colour for the artwork and Shine (Nelson) for the jewellery.

Thank you for your interest in the Sakura collection and we hope you love the designs as much as we do!

Happy sewing.
